Oh False Illusions in Disney

With my college career coming to a close I have decided to take the nostalgic route and embrace life in the false illusion that our lovable Disney movies have set up for us little girls. You know exactly what I'm talking about, the prince charmings, the beautiful magic, the idea of love, marriage, and the ever desired "happy ending".

Ariel from The Little Mermaid was 16 when she wedded and found her true love Prince Eric, Belle from Beauty and the Beast were around the age of 21, and Arora from Sleeping Beauty was about 18...these are all prime ages for youth to express their love for each other...but not settle down.

We see all of these princess characters as barbie doll like in their physic and as high spirited in the nature of their minds. They end up falling for the handsome prince and the prince endures an epic battle to win her affection over forever. In the world we actually live in, this is extremely disheartening to come to the conclusion that guys are not looking for their mrs. right.

With good reason I suppose, when we're this young it's important to want to be selfish and really go after what you want to make you happy. So I do understand both sides of the coin. It's the initial realization that 'wow I feel like I've been living a lie' that really takes a hold on my soul. I think it's great when you find someone you really care and want to spend the rest of your life with, it's that post modern dating style that drives me nuts.

There's the biology factor that guys don't have to deal with and don't try to understand that gets to me. It's almost not fair that guys actually can hold out until they reach their 30s to want to settle down and have kids, the whole nine yards. Women on the other hand aren't so lucky to have that kind of time to wait to do such a thing. If a woman waits until her 30s to have a baby there's greater medical risks that come with aging associated with fertility and all that.

Before I drive myself crazy with the pressures of time and biology, I'll stick to what I wish the world was more like...a fairytale. It's more fun to pretend that birds and horses can talk to you anyway.
