Wide Eyed and Chocosized

I was raised as a Catholic and when I was younger my ultimate favorite part of Easter was...the chocolate. I do apologize God for my childlike mindset but as an openly admitting choco-holic I can't help but to feel those little tingles build up inside of me when I see the very first Easter chocolate set up in any grocery store. There's always that one specific type of chocolate that makes my mouth and mind melt.

I will always go on a mission to obtain it, and on a recent trip to the Price Chopper in town the mission was on. I walked down those long narrow aisles of food displays with one thing and one thing only on my mind. I rode the cart down and made a sharp turn to the left secretly hoping no one was coming around the corner to cause a small rukus preventing me from doing what I was sent there to do. I couldn't be having any distractions but at the same time my death perception was at a low since this task was more important than a potential cart collision in Price Chopper, a price worth paying in the end.

I finally came to it, an array of deliciously displayed chocolate...I was so taken back by what I saw that I unconsciously circled the display twice just taking it all in, like a shark circling it's prey. The more times i circled, the more I grew concerned...did they really not have it? "UNACCEPTABLE!" I shouted in the middle of the frozen meat section (oddly enough that's where they placed the chocolate table).

Cadbury Mini Eggs...THE most incredible tastey treat I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. This specific chocolate only comes around during the Easter season, and once the season is over so is the selling of this magnificent piece of food art. So you understand my concern at Price Chopper, with this being a seasonal chocolate I needed to stock up and enjoy it for as long as possible, and it was not present at the PC. A complete and utter disappointment.

Cadbury chocolate is a British confectionary company. This chocolate is so incredibly good and has such high quality that The Hershey Company also decided to distribute some of the chocolate throughout the United States (thank goodness) saying this would expand there profits internationally. There was a controversial buy in from Kraft as well to get a piece of this amazing company. In January 2010, the two companies came to an agreement settlement and Kraft purchased shares of Cadbury increasing their share value to about $19 a piece. With this combining of two great companies Cadbury was able to make itself the largest confectionary company in the world.

Point blank being, Cadbury Mini Eggs are the best chocolatey treat anyone could ask for during the Easter season and if you're looking for some top quality delicious chocolate any Cadbury product will do just the trick. Check out Cadbury's UK website here! To all my choco-holics in the world, bon appetit!

Let's Do Some Spring Cleaning, Shall We?

With all this recent snowfall seeming to engulf whatever is left of Oswego County it seems to be normal to slip into a sort of spring sick obsession most closely related to that of being home sick. Personally I can't stand it, we had a tease of beautiful weather no more than a week ago and it has been ripped out from under us so quickly I am left feeling dazed and confused. I was able to pull myself together and I refuse to let this horrid of a town bring my spirits down any further. Oswego has yet to suck out all the life in me, and I am able to make it through my days by switching up my personal hygenic routines. It truly is the little things in life that can bring a smile to our faces if we allow them to. For example with the (hopefully) changing of the seasons it's always a good idea to change your scent, style, and product use.

Girls, a little splurging here and there never hurt anyone, and let's face it we should squeeze the people getting paid to help us get out of a funk for all they're worth.... starting with Marc Jacobs.

Yes that's right ladies, Marc Jacobs has released his new fragrance for women called "Daisy, Eau So Fresh" this is an updated version of the original with a newly styled bottle and truly delicious scent. If you're like me and not exactly a fan of the floral smells, do not worry, this is one of the most soothing scents I've ever encountered and I love every drop of it. It's a tad bit pricy ranging between 65 and 85 dollars but trust me this splurge is worth every penny.

If you're looking to save a penny and still want to smell ultimately incredibly throughout the day, I highly recommend trying the V05 shampoo and conditioner products. They normally cost under 2 dollars and I've been using them for the past month now. There's an extensive amount of different fragrances that all smell incredible and work magic on my hair. They aren't an inferior brand as many of you may think, in fact they used to cost as much as the professional brands but because of the way they are able to mass produce more sufficiently they are able to lower their prices as such. When buying the professional brands you are more or less just paying for the name rather than the product itself. This money saver is indeed worth it and treats my hair very well during these harsh weather conditions.

Another fragrance to check out is Playboy's new fragrances released for men and women. Playboy's new fragrances not only smell fantastic but they have an extremely entertaining website you can check out. The three new fragrances for women are "Play it Spicy", "Play it Lovely", and "Play it Sexy" all in the affordable price range between 15 and 20 dollars. Playboy's done it again. The new fragrance for men is "New York" and is also in the affordable price range being around 15 dollars.

More ways to lighten and brighten up your daily routines during this outbreak of snow to come soon...

Take that, and that!

One thing I always appreciate while being the crazy movie/television buff that I am is a good solid comeback. I get so into these films and shows that I find myself yelling at the screen things like "Oh BURN!" or "No he did not just say that!" I love it, I think it's great entertainment, incredible writing and superb acting and is worth bringing up. You can agree to disagree but the point of the matter being that these moments in television are in fact some pretty good comebacks.

On the more humorous side, I believe a recently produced television show called Community has some overwhelming clever comebacks between the character dialogue. This series premiered on September 17th 2009 and was created by Dan Harmon who was nominated for 2 Emmy Awards and an Academy Award for his skill in writing. The show is about a group of students who attend a local Community College and the mishaps that happen between them. The show often mocks film and television cliches by using heavy meta-humor and pop culture references. The all-star cast includes Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs,  Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, and last but not least Chevy Chase. David Bushman of the Paley Center for Media said this series to be "the best new show of the fall season." Here are some interesting Community show clips and note-able comebacks...

Community Clip 1
*In this episode, Jeff Winger is up on his soap box for the ultimate comeback after the group is angry with each other and he is trying to win over Brita but fails despite his best efforts.

Community Clip 2
*In this episode, Jack Black makes a cameo and plays an overbearing character that the group wants to kick out.

Community Clip 3
*After a virus attacks the school turning everyone into zombies, the after math is quite hilarious, but in this clip we see the characters Abed and Troy discussing the more simple things in life.

Community Clip 4
*In this episode, Jeff is trying to woo a professor into have relations with him when he is interrupted by his fellow classmates.

A few clips to lighten up your days and bring out that sunny silver lining during these horrible Oswego weather conditions. Hope you enjoy! :0)

Stunned but Haven't Hit the Mat Yet

I wasn't very familiar with the work of Floria Sigismondi until I found out she wrote and directed the 2010 film The Runaways. Some excess web surfing catered me in my curiosity of this person and I was able to stumble across some information that I found to be pleasantly surprising, for example Floria has also directed some music videos for artists such as Marilyn Manson ( "Tourniquet"), Christina Aguilera ("Hurt" and "Fighter"), The White Stripes ("Blue Orchid") and Incubus ("Talk Shows on Mute" and "Megalomaniac").

Pulled in right? I was... and so I decided to watch The Runaways and see how her talents are as a filmmaker and I was indeed pleased with the outcome. The film is based after the book Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway which was written by lead vocalist Cherie Currie. The focus of the film is within the relationship between Cherie and Joan Jett during the formation of the band and until Cherie's departure of the band in the late 70s. The cinematography alone is enough to keep you interested throughout the film I sincerely feel this film is a must see and depicts the life of a rockstar...stereotypes included.

What stunned me the most though was Kristen Stewart's performance of Joan Jett's character. Now don't get any ridiculous ideas, I am not a "Twihard" fan in fact I am quite the opposite. I see Kristen Stewart as a mediocre actress and even with all the money this girl is making off of it she refuses to smile and this in fact adds to my dislike of her character and so on. But, believe it or not, I feel she did an excellent job portraying Joan Jett's character in The Runaways... kind of a 'surprise, surprise' feeling since Stewart is angry enough as it is but at least this time she used that anti-hollywood platform and transformed it into the ultimate rock and roll chic vibe that made me say to myself 'wow I kind of think you're a better actress than I gave you credit for'.

With that being said, The Runaways has made its way up the charts of my movie likes list and had me downloading some classic Joan Jett songs. My dream of being a rockstar will live on. Thanks to this film I hold my Guitar Hero controller with pride and sing along to "Cherry Bomb" like it's the last song I'll ever sing.

Bringing Up Baby, oh baby!

We're all familiar with the classic genre of the 'screwball comedy' and with all the craziness going on in the world today it's nice to be able to kick back, relax, and enjoy the mind numbing-ness of escapism that so many films are able to portray perfectly. Many film critics agree and disagree with the time frame of when the screwball comedy came to be but in general they peaked from about 1934 until the 1940s.

Scary concept to the untrained film buff, you may be thinking 'what?! 1930s and 40s?! Where's my Michael Bay BIG EXPLOSIONS' sorry everyone, but I feel you must appreciate the oldies in order to see the crazy crap being thrown our way no a days and having being told that it's 'good film making'.

What's so interesting and different about the screwball comedy genre is that it's the ultimate way screenwriters gained revenge on their Hays Code making counterparts within the industry. If you're not familiar with the Hays Code it's basically a set of rules created for film makers to abide by after society felt that Hollywood was taking over their beliefs and wrecking havoc on their youth (too bad they didn't know the times now) and of course the screenwriters of that time were as clever as ever and found the loop holes. Screwball is also known as 'a sex comedy without the sex".

More specifically I'd like to mention Howard Hawks an American film director/producer/screenwriter of the classic Hollywood era and his 1938 film Bringing Up Baby. The film stars Hollywood hot shots Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, an unlikely duo for the time especially since Katharine Hepburn was seen as a snobby socialite. Her role in this film is a goofy individual with a truly unique way of going about living life. Cary Grant plays an uptight Scientist who gets all tangled up in Katharine Hepburn's character's antics placing them in some obscene predicaments from time to time. You've got to be on your toes throughout the pacing of this film or you may miss a joke or two, that is the flow of the screwball, quick commentary pokes and fast dialogue between characters. This film is a must see in my book and if you appreciate well-written films with outstanding actors than you'll appreciate this film without a doubt.

Indie Flick to Check

With Valentines' Day coming to a quick close I'm sure there are a few people out there who think the holiday is anything but such. Well after my constant internet surfing for new films to check out, I just so happened to stumble across a film called After Sex which is directed by Eric Amadio. Not a very well known director but he is indeed very talented within the profession. This film tackles the awkward conversations that occurr none other than the precious moments "after sex". Amadio goes after couples who have been dating for years and the obstacles that they go through as well as the quick one night stand when you experience an extremely intimate moment with someone you barely know. The screenwriting is outstanding with the quick and quirky and intimate comments each couple makes. More popular actors in the movie are Mila Kunis, Jane Seymour, Taryn Manning, and Emmanuelle Chriqui. There are 9 separate couples that we as the spectator or audience members encounter along our journey throughout this film and I believe there is at least one couple that anyone can relate to which makes the film that much more relatable and interesting. It's a fairly new film created in 2007 and without divulging too much information it's one to check out. I come across many films and this one had me jumping through the spectrum of emotions almost instantaneously so if you enjoy a little bit of drama, a lot of humor, and the awkwardness that can occur after sex, I highly suggest checking out this Independent film soon.

Whip It

We all remember Drew Barrymore from films such as E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Charlie's Angels, Never Been Kissed, and even from the popular television show Family Guy (she is the voice of Brian's girlfriend Jillian). Well she has only continued to wow everyone in the Entertainment industry with her determination and dedication to the quality of a film and what makes a good film indeed that, a good film. Drew Barrymore had her Directorial debut in 2009 with her film Whip It. The film stars Ellen Page who plays an outcast named Bliss Cavender in small town Bodeen, Texas who stumbles across a roller derby team based out of Austin, Texas. Taking place in the 1990s it follows Bliss on her adventure in becoming part of the roller derby team The Hurl Scouts. Shauna Cross wrote the screen play for the film based on her novel Derby Girl written in 2007. Whip It was a critical success but unfortunately fell short in the box office coming in at #6 with $4,650,812 in it's opening weekend. Despite it's lack in the box office I still stand by this film as a must-see as soon as possible. Being a film major myself I can say I've seen a variety of films from all over the world and it's been awhile since I came across a film like Whip It. The soundtrack alone went so well with every scene making the continuity of the film flow so smoothly and beautifully that I hunted down the soundtrack at a local Best Buy and bought it. Bottom line is, if you're a sucker for a good cult classic and enjoy the magic of what indie music has to bring to the table along with some kick ass roller derby entertainment then this is the movie for you. My compliments go out to Drew for her incredibly Directing skills making this film what it is and worth sharing with everyone who has yet to experience the magic.
