And the winner for stupidity goes to...

I recently discovered that there has been an "anti-obesity" movement encouraging people to get active and stop being the lazy Americans we are often pinned to be. At first I'm very fond of this movement, I mean it's a great idea, let's take the extra effort in getting the facts out, that diet and exercise is indeed important in our overall health as human beings.

This campaign mainly being publicized by Michele Obama has some really great intentions. They are asking a majority of restaurants in Massachusetts to post the calorie count on their menus as well as getting some public schools to be more proactive in ensuring that their students are in the average height and weight percentiles. They are also pushing hospitals to serve more healthy foods in their facilities and presenting grants to employers for having a workout place or workout programs in their workplace.

The efforts to reduce obesity seems as if their doing a relatively good job overall. I felt this way until I came across an article disclosing that Michele Obama is discontinuing the love-able cereal of many generations, Captain Crunch. I had a "a-baaah" moments and needed to do a few double takes when I stumbled upon this information. My immediate thought being, what gives her the right to enforce this and who does she think she is for doing so? You can check the article out here and formulate your own opinion regarding this issue but mine stands strong. This is clear stupidity.

With so many other horrible foods out there in the consumer market today, why is Captain Crunch being targeted as "the bad one". Let's not forget that McDonalds and Burger King isn't exactly your organically healthy choice when making a meal decision, but no let's discontinue Captain Crunch instead. Taking a look at other cereals that I'd hate to say it but are deserving to be in the running over Captain Crunch to be discontinued are Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp, and Trix. With these cereals being almost equally as unhealthy for you why is the Captain being hit with the daggers? Especially in the aspect of children, what about certain sodas such as Mountain Dew which is basically one step away from being anti-freeze yet that is still on the shelves today and going strong making kids bounce off walls with sugar kicks.

I guess the old saying, "to each their own" comes into play but I feel there are so many better ways to go about furthering this "anti-obesity" movement like the ones I've mentioned above. This is basically another way for the Obama administration to brainwash their followers instead of helping them make a "change" for a better lifestyle. If you're offering a "change" to be made then it shouldn't be forced upon you by discontinuing certain foods, what's next? Banning certain books? Allowing gas prices to reach obscene prices? This isn't the "change" I was expecting...
